Explore Coburg
In the heart of Franconia

Coburg's official motto is "Werte und Wandel" (Values and Change). With its lovingly restored half-timbered houses, solid craftsmanship and green spaces, it's a typically idyllic Franconian town. Even today, its ancient market square still bustles with the comings and goings of small-town life.

  • Wildlife

The game park at Tambach Castle is an excursion destination for the whole family. In addition to the spacious English park, which invites you to go for a walk, more than 250 wild animals live on about 50 hectares of natural habitat. Lynxes, moose, mouflons and many more regularly have young animals. Goats wait in the petting zoo and birds of prey can be admired during the flight show. Vis-à-vis the park there is an extensive 18-hole golf course, whose golf club was founded by the lords of the castle at that time.

  • ELIAS Glashütte

With its 166-year history, the ELIAS Glashütte - Farbglashütte Lauscha is the glowing heart of the glassblowing town of Lauscha. Glass has been produced here manually in the traditional way since 1853. In spectacular manual work, unique products are still created in our manufactory today, which are characterized by the love and passion of our employees for the material glass.

Our traditional handicraft techniques are the result of the diversity and beauty of the Thuringian Forest - a valuable cultural asset to which we are committed.

  • Hofgarten

The Coburg Hofgarten is an extensive landscape park that stretches between the Schlossplatz and the Veste. The courtyard garden is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Coburg. The Hofgarten is not just a place to picnic, soak up the sun, do jogging - but also to enjoy culture. Among other things, you will find the Mausoleum of the Coburg Dukes, the monument of the Coburg Convent, the Natural History Museum and the Kunstverein. On the edge of the Hofgarten there is also a large playground for children.

  • Wohnzimmer

Since 2005, the Living Room Bar has been an integral part of Coburg's nightlife - right in the middle of the pedestrian zone. Cool drinks and cocktails, delicious food and chilled music in the evening characterise the unique atmosphere of the Wohnzimmer Bar. Sports fans also get their money's worth. All major sporting events such as the Bundesliga, Champions League, Boxing, Handball & Football World Championships or the Super Bowl are shown on the large flatscreen wall TV. Best view guaranteed!

  • The legend of the sausage

The Coburger Bratwurst is a perfect snack to go. It is particularly tasty at the Bratwurststand on the main square, where it is grilled over pine cones and beech wood. By the way, the traditional sausage length of 31 centimetres is derived from the marshal's baton, which one of the figures on the town hall roof holds in his hand. Just look for the "Bratwurstmännla" while you enjoy your sausage.

With the Veste Coburg fortress, the magnificent Ehrenburg Palace and the busy Landestheater, Coburg has plenty to offer for lovers of history and the arts. Schloss Rosenau and Schloss Callenberg are equally worth a visit.

The people of Coburg know how to enjoy life. The Steinweg is the city's longest promenade. Lebkuchen shop Wilhelm Feyler sells the legendary "Goldschmätzchen" biscuits, while "Coburger Mohr" chocolates can be found on Kirchhof. A whole region of taste lies waiting to be discovered.

Coburg is definitely a place for lovers of good food. On Marktplatz you'll soon smell the local sausages being grilled over pine cones, and a stroll through town will take you past coffee roasting houses, butcher's shops and bakeries.

When Coburg is not celebrating the world's largest samba festival outside of Brazil, rock and pop stars often give concerts here. Also not to be missed are the Schlossplatzfest, which is North Bavaria's biggest food festival, and the legendary Christmas market.

The Coburg region is well known for its wide range of hiking trails and bike tours. Its rolling hills provide plenty of good riding for families, road racers and mountain bikers.
