Explore Trier
Culture, work, holiday or leisure?

Welcome to the oldest city in Germany! Nestled among the beautiful landscape of the Mosel Valley, Trier is awash with history, culture and architecture. Discover the historic old town

The exact location

The Vienna House Easy in 'the Rome of the north' is just 10 minutes' walk from the historical old town, right by the Kaisertherme baths. Steeped in history, Germany's oldest town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. So whether you're here for business or pleasure, you'll find a treasure trove of history waiting to be discovered.

  • One city, many themes

Let this charming city centre be presented to you individually. Trier Tourism currently offers city tours for up to 5 people. It could not be more exclusive! Also exciting are the adventure tours, during which you can immerse yourself in the time of the ancient Romans or the Middle Ages, or discover the underground of Trier. Wine lovers will get their money's worth on wine tours. By the way, you can also visit the "Bischöfliche Weingüter" Trier and taste the wines on site.

  • Rustic on the Zurlaubener Ufer

The banks of the Moselle in Trier are always worth a walk. The cute fishermen's houses on the Zurlaubener Ufer were built around 1800. Here you can not only enjoy the wonderful view of the Moselle, but also find numerous restaurants and bars.

An insider tip is the Wirtshaus Alt Zalawen. Elke and Paul authentically serve their guests in a rustic atmosphere regional wine, freshly tapped beer and a rustic cuisine. In addition to "Elke's Schmierenmanufaktur" (very richly topped farmhouse bread) with various toppings, they also conjure up seasonal delicacies. In summer the large terrace directly on the Moselle is very cosy and there is also soometimes live music.

  • A hike and a cake!

Above the city of Trier is the Mariensäule, which was built in 1866 by the citizens. From the hotel, you can hike up to the Mariensäule and from there you will have a fantastic view of the Roman

city and of the Mosel valley. After this hike, you can reward yourself with a real homemade selection of cakes at the Cafe Mohrenkopf.

  • The Church of St. Paulinus

The former collegiate Church of St. Paulinus in the north of the city was built on a Roman cemetery. The ceiling paintings and sculptures in the interior of the church are particularly worth seeing - instead of individual impressions of space, visitors can expect a single room picture here!

  • An unforgettable treetop walk

The 1,250 m treetop walk offers spectacular views from the observation tower overlooking the Saarschleife, a beautiful bend of the river Saar. Explore the breathtaking landscape from a new perspective. Stroll through beeches, oaks and Douglas firs at up to 23 m above the forest floor. The more adventurous can learn about the local flora and fauna at the activity stations along the walkway.

  • TRIER – A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

A trip to Trier is also a trip back in time to Augusta Trevorum, the imperial seat of the Roman empire. Nine official World Heritage Sites, including magnificent constructions such as the Kaiserthermen baths, the amphitheatre, the Constantine Basilica, the Porta Nigra and the Cathedral, combine to give you an idea of the city's place in history.

  • CULTURAL TRIER

Visit the Rheinische Landesmuseum or the Stadtmuseum Simeonstift. Make time for some wine tasting in the Trier-Olewig district. And for diverse cultural offerings, try the Stadttheater, the Arena Trier or the Tuchfabrik.

  • A STROLL THROUGH TRIER

Make sure you leave enough time for a leisurely stroll through town. The four main shopping streets, Simeonstrasse, Brotstrasse, Fleischstrasse and Nagelstrasse, are all pedestrianised. Tip: Don't miss the smaller shops on Neustrasse.

  • ENJOY TRIER

Immerse yourself in the flow of city life in Trier. The restaurants, cafés and traditional German Kneipen, Hauptmarkt, Kornmarkt and Zurlaubener Ufer on the banks of the Mosel are popular destinations. They all represent a great introduction to Trier's nightlife.

  • ACTIVE TRIER

A detour into the surrounding countryside will take you far away from the noise of the city. The hills and forests of Eifel and Hunsrück, and the unique landscape of the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer rivers, are a mecca for hikers and cyclists. And the pilgrim routes of the Eifelsteig and Moselsteig promise a special experience for all who walk them.

  • Mattheiser pond

About 15 minutes walk from the hotel you will find the Mattheiser pond, actually two ponds beautiful in every season.

    Shhh! THE SECRET TIP:

From the South Station, a great bike lane leads through the Altbach and Olewiger valley (with a short detour to the amphitheater) and past the mountain district Kernscheid in the middle of the nature reserve Mattheiser forest. Along the local ponds, you drive through the old district of Heiligkreuz and its chapel from the 11th century back to the South Station. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and is 17 kilometers long. You should bring some breath - but you will be rewarded with beautiful views and a healthy mix of cultural attractions and pure nature.
