Explore Potsdam
ONCE YOU’RE HERE, YOU’LL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE

Potsdam is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a city of castles and gardens. It is a magnificent and historic cultural pearl with idyllic lakes and more than 1,000 years of history. Potsdam is a centre of film, education and science, a colourful student town and, by the way, right next to the lively German capital of Berlin.

The exact location

Hotel am Havelufer is an exciting blend of styles, with a historic building designed by the 19th-century architect Ludwig Persius and a modern part created by Rave Architekten. The hotel is located in Potsdam City West right on the banks of the river Havel. Want to go exploring? The main train station is about 3 km, Berlin’s Tegel and Schönefeld airports about 35 km away. Are you a cyclist? Then rent a bike and explore one of the numerous bicycle routes through Potsdam and the surrounding area starting directly in front of the hotel.

  • SANSSOUCI – ROYAL AND SUBLIME

Sanssouci Palace, the summer residence and favourite retreat of Frederick the Great, is beautifully situated above a terraced vineyard with breathtaking views over the entire city. The name Sanssouci – French for “without concerns” – can be understood as the wish of the king, known affectionately as “Old Fritz”, who preferred Potsdam to Berlin and resided here with his dogs. Enjoy a stroll through the 300-acre Sanssouci Park with its fascinating natural settings and magnificent buildings such as the New Palace, the Picture Gallery and the Orangery.

    Here we go
  • POTSDAM – SHOPPING

When it comes to shopping, Potsdam no longer has to hide behind its big sister Berlin. The historic city centre and Brandenburger Straße dazzle shoppers with large department stores in the baroque style like Galeria Karstadt but also lots of hip concept stores, exclusive boutiques and small shops for delicious specialties, unique tea and spice varieties as well as pralines from select chocolate makers.

Tip: Browse for antiques and art treasures in the Dutch Quarter and discover the city’s smaller shopping malls. The most recent is Luisenforum between Brandenburger Straße and Hermann-Elflein-Straße.

  • POTSDAM – TOP 5

Potsdam is full to the bursting with history and heritage. But these top sights are a definite must-see when you’re here: Sanssouci Palace and Park, Dutch Quarter and Glienicke Bridge but also the Barberini art museum and Babelsberg film studios, a favourite location for international producers and directors for decades.

  • POTSDAM – ART & CULTURE

The theatre, arts and cultural scene in Potsdam is an ensemble of small and large studios, galleries and museums as well as sculptures in the public space. All of Potsdam is like an open-air museum.

Absolutely worth seeing is the Schiffbauergasse (Shipbuilders Lane) directly on the shores of Tiefer See. Today a hip and trendy part of the city, with views of Babelsberg Park, Schiffbauergasse is home to the renowned Hans Otto Theatre, the Waschhaus party zone and the fabrik dance theatre as well as several high-tech residents such as Oracle and the Volkswagen Design Center.

  • POTSDAM – AQUATIC FUN

Potsdam is surrounded by water on all sides. Do you surf or sail or love to race your boat over the water? The Windsurfing Potsdam water sports school near Campingpark Sanssouci offers rental options and courses of all kinds. If you like it quieter, then you could go sightseeing with the Potsdamer Wassertaxi. Once on board, you can marvel at countless sights from the water. Just get in and off you go!
